Update on Giants Round 1 ticket offer

As you may have heard, the AFL will be playing round 1 games without any spectators, following the government recommendation to avoid gatherings of greater than 500 people.

As a consequence, any tickets that you purchased through the recent offer from GWS Giants will be fully refunded. The club is currently working through the best and most efficient way to do this with the link provider .

Once we have an update, we will keep you informed.

One hour, or the entire season. Any help is appreicated

We encourage members from all age groups to consider committee involvement. Introduction of new talent to the committee ensures the Club continues to be relevant to its current membership, brings new ideas and allows prudent succession planning and knowledge transfer as longer serving members retire.

And it doesn’t matter what amount of time you can offer. It can be as little as an hour on one weekend, or multiple hours each week over the entire season.

You can also be creative in your role on the committee. Have you considered holding a position jointly with a friend/s. For example, two or three people could look after the marketing/communications role.

In 2020, we are looking for a couple of key appointments. We are hoping to have a permanent canteen in place next year, and would love to have a Canteen Manager to make sure its stocked with food prior to each weekend of games.

We also have some key vacancies to fill. We are looking for someone (ie an accountant) to help manage the books over the season. This year the club setup the accounting package Zero, which should make things relatively easy to manage.

The Vice-President role is also vacant at this stage. This is a role can be what ever the person who fills it wants. But in essence, it supports the President and works across the entire club.

The job description for these roles and many other can be viewed here.

If you are interested in these positions or any of the additional ones listed below, please let us know.

  1. Present and apologies (Register of those present to be signed)

Following the conclusion of the AGM a club committee dinner will be held at 8.00 pm.

Cricket season nearly upon us

Did you know that Australian Rules was created by cricketers looking for something to keep them fit during the winter?

Why not do the same and join the Lane Cove Cricket Club. The start of the 2019/20 season is only just around the corner. And there is a team for everyone.

Just as we’ve experienced huge growth in girls footy, so has the cricket code. After a magnificent debut season by the U11 girls tea, the LCCC are looking to enter a girls only U13 team this season.

Just ask some of our magnificent players; such as Eliza McLeod, Sam Zahra, Genevieve Hynes, Celeste Gilchrist and Elizabeth Yates who were part of the first ever girls only winning team in 2018/19. Its costs only $100 for the season (if you use the Active Kids voucher).

Of course, you can’t forget the boys. They also have another exciting season ahead of themselves.

Lane Cove girls footy shines at Awards Ceremony

Players and coaches from all over Sydney descended on Epping Club on Monday for the annual Kieran Jack medal awards ceremony.

The night celebrates junior football across Sydney, with awards handed out for coaches, players, umpires and administrators in age groups U13 and above. It culminates with the Best & Fairest for the premier U17 age group.

And the night was a successful one for the Lane Cove Cats. In the U14 youth girls division, Charlotte Armstrong came third overall in the Best & Fairest. Charlotte was also picked in the All Star team from the U14YG representative carnival along with Jaime Morelli. Well done girls!

To top things off, Greg Byrne (our Youth Girls Coordinator) was awarded the Youth Coach of the Year. Congratulations!

Our youth girls program has gone from strength to strength over the three years. It started with our inaugural all-girls team in the first ever U12YG competition in Sydney in 2017. This was driven by the then newly appointed Youth Girls Coordinator, Greg Byrne.

Greg coached the Lane Cove girls team in a competition comprising of only four teams; St Ives, North West Lightning, Willoughby Mosman Swans and Lane Cove Cats.

The following year we entered a team into the U10YG age group, coached by Daniel Hynes. And this year we expanded again with a team entering the U14YG competition. All up, we gone from nothing to having 50 girls across three teams playing competitive Aussie Rules at the club in the space of three years.

Next year we are looking to expand even further, with plans well advanced to enter a team in the U16YG age group. And judging on this night, we are in some good hands.
